Behind the MUSIC

New music video posted on the multi-media page! The dust has settled after the sprinters recording of the song and video for "Frayed Blue Jeans." Here's the story behind it.

I needed cash, so I wanted to sell my mustang, but not before I shot the script I had written for the song "FBJeans." I contacted Chris, at River & Heron. He agreed to the project once I had a full band recording. Enter The Bihlman Bros.

My good friend Scot "Little" Bihlman had just driven cross-country from LA to Michigan. I called him the day after he arrived. He described the perfect studio, a state of the art old barn in the middle of the MI countryside where The Bihlman Bros had recorded several of their albums.

It should be noted- The Bihlman Bros. are Emmy award winning songwriters, have appeared with BB King, ZZ Top, Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, Ted Nuggent, After Bridge, REO Speedwagon and recorded with a slew of others.

Back to the recording- So I drove the bus up to Traverse City, MI. We didn't even run through the entire song before entering the studio. Five hours later we had the finished track! Those guys are totally pro.

Two days later Chris found Roxy Hauldren to play the Frayed Blue Jeans girl and hustled to find her waredrobe that night. Meanwhile I drove the bus back to Northwest Ohio, traded it for my mustang and drove out to Youngstown. A day later we started filming principle photography.

We shot for four days straight with perfect weather, then took a few days without sleep to edit. I drove the mustang back to Toledo, got back in the VW and slowly motored back to Y-Town. Somehow I managed to find a firework store along the way that was open in October. Meanwhile, Chris scrambled for a crew and crowd for the grand finale party scene. We invited all of our friends, bought a dozen jugs of wine, bottle of Captins, passed out the mason and jam jars, and let the party do it's thing. After the sleepless days to build the country meadow set, shoot it, tear it down and edit- you see the fruits of our labor in a killer music video.

It took less than 3 weeks from entering the studio to record the song, to the finished music video. Let Hollywood keep it's big budget solutions. We've got creativity and friendship to run circles around them.

Ask yourself what is it you want to do? Got it? So what are you waiting for?

Haven't seen the music video or heard the new song? Watch it on the multi-media page or www.myspace.com/mattpalka where you'll find more pics and info as well.
